Still not sure what temperature is best for chilling drinks?
Summer is here and the hot days make us want a cool drink. To get the best out of it, we share with you the ideal temperature for chilling drinks.
It’s very simple: first of all, it’s best to find the right refrigeration equipment for drinks. If you don’t have one yet, FRICON offers a wide selection:
- Vertical Refrigerator VCV 2B;
- DUO Vertical Display (Preserver and Refrigerator);
- Horizontal Refrigerator THB 6R;
- Counter Refrigerator CT 83, 4R, 5B and 8;
- Wine cellar.
Once you’ve found the equipment that meets your needs, you just need to know the ideal temperature for chilling drinks:
Beers
The type of beer influences the ideal temperature for chilling drinks.
More elaborate, bitter and strong beers should be kept at 8 to 12ºC. Those that are more refreshing but still have some complex content can be refrigerated up to 5 to 7ºC. Finally, lighter wines with a maximum alcohol content of 5.5% can be kept at 2 to 4ºC.
You should put them out of their boxes or packaging and keep them upright for better circulation of cold air.
It is also important to avoid freezing the beer as much as possible, as this can negatively affect its quality and taste. Freezing can cause expansion and damage to the packaging, so if any beer accidentally freezes, it is best to defrost it gradually in the refrigerator, without shaking, in order to minimize damage.
Wines
Unlike most other drinks, they should be stored at an average room temperature of 15ºC, although you can vary this ideal temperature for chilling drinks:
- Sparkling wines: generally served between 6°C and 10°C. Lower temperatures bring out the freshness and effervescence of the bubbles;
- White wines: the recommended temperature range for white wines is 8°C to 12°C. Lower temperatures exult acidity and freshness, while higher temperatures can bring out fruity and aromatic notes;
- Rosé wines: the ideal temperature for rosé wines ranges from 8°C to 12°C. Lower temperatures bring out the freshness and fruity flavours;
- Light, young red wines: we recommend serving these wines between 12°C and 16°C. Lower temperatures can emphasize acidity and tannins;
- Full-bodied and aged red wines: The recommended temperature range for this category of red wine is 16°C to 18°C. Higher temperatures help to release complex aromas and soften the tannins.
It is important to note that wines must be chilled with the bottles horizontal, so that the cork remains wet, without drying out and without oxygen escaping. Avoid damp, hot and sunny places.
Soft drinks and juices
The ideal temperature for chilling drinks such as soft drinks and juices is between 4°C and 8°C. This way, you can keep drinks cool without freezing them or altering their properties, although the temperature may vary depending on the category.
It should also be noted that individual preferences can vary in relation to the temperature at which soft drinks and juices are consumed. Some people may prefer to drink them at cooler temperatures, while others may prefer them at slightly higher temperatures. It is therefore important to adjust the temperature according to your personal taste.
Tip: Don’t forget to respect the storage capacity of each piece of equipment. If we exceed its capacity, there won’t be enough space for air to circulate properly, causing greater energy consumption and compromising the temperature and refrigeration of the drinks.
